"Where in the world are we today?"

In years past this blog was a way for family and friends to join us on our journey as we lived and traveled throughout Europe. Beginning September 2017 it will include our journey into Waldorf homeschooling/worldschooling. I hope to offer inspiration and connection to those that love to travel and home school their children...

The Isar River

So it's been pretty hard to top those Paris pictures. I don't think anything will compare for a while. When we got back from France, Tristan couldn't wait to put his new chef hat on and whip something up in the kitchen!

He is going to give Jamie Oliver a run for his money!

We have spent several days this week at the Isar River, with temperatures reaching nearly 70 degrees. We fed the swans and picked perfect rocks.

Tristan luring the swan with bread so he could take a better look at him with his magnifying glass.

We are lucky enough to have the river running 5 minutes from our house. It is fed by the melting snow from the Alps.

We have also spent the week picking an endless supply of crocus and snowdrops.

And finally... the beginning of naked Germans along the Isar. The swan got a good look at this 80 something year old lady sunning herself. Apparently as the weather turns for the better, everyone flocks to the river banks to sun bathe in their birthday suits...

Paris!

Now, I MUST warn you... this trip was filled with things to tickle the senses...mostly however, the sense of TASTE! I found it incredibly difficult to resist taking a photo of nearly every pattisseri window that I passed. But at least I only photographed the goodies and didn't eat them all!
The funny thing about this trip was that Tristan slept through most of it. For once he didn't mind being in the Jeep Jogger, and of course once he was in there, he would fall asleep soon afterward for two, sometimes three hours. This left us plenty of time to wander around uninterrupted. The down side was that he wasn't in a lot of the photos. I balanced the camera on his stroller and managed this quiet picture for two!

Our first night there, we ate at an amazing restaurant called Le Petit Nicois, in the 7th, right around the corner from our apartment. It truly was THE BEST MEAL OF MY ENTIRE LIFE! It started with a ratatouille appetizer that was very similar to my own... however it was slightly better than mine. Then a roasted chicken with mashed potatoes, and words can not describe how good it was! The mashed potatoes themselves were like a dessert, not buttery, but really thick and creamy. The grande finale, Christian and I shared a chocolate fondant with hazelnut ice cream... The first time ever I ate a dessert slowly because I was actually savoring the chocolate sensation. All of this was nicely washed down with a bottle of the best wine I've ever had, which was Domaine Salvat Tradition 2003 Cotes du Roussillon. We were able to enjoy this meal to its absolute fullest because Tristan was out cold in the stroller!

Lunch with a view!

As this was our 6th visit to Paris, we were not concerned with the tourist attractions, rather more interested in the day to day life of a Parisian: The morning market, the food, the architecture, the small details.

We went to E. Dehillerin, the famous cookware store that Julia Childs used to frequent. We also went to Le Bon Marche, the first department store in the whole world, where the toy section was as big as a city block!

The French have NEVER heard of the Atkins Diet!
