"Where in the world are we today?"

In years past this blog was a way for family and friends to join us on our journey as we lived and traveled throughout Europe. Beginning September 2017 it will include our journey into Waldorf homeschooling/worldschooling. I hope to offer inspiration and connection to those that love to travel and home school their children...

Celebrating Valentine's Day Weekend In Bavaria!

ETTAL

Yesterday we headed down towards Ettal to the Ettal Monestary. In my opinion this church is one of the most beautiful I've ever seen... and I have seen my fair share of churches all over Europe. The ceiling to me, although smaller in comparision, is far superior to even that of the Sistine Chapel.

This is looking up through the gorgeous chandelier towards the ceiling.

The Monks of Ettal make the most delicious flavored Shnapps! Christian bought one of every flavor to taste!

OBERAMMERGAU

After leaving Ettal, we headed on to the town of Oberammergau, world famous for the frescou painted houses with fairytale or religious themes and their wood carvings, as well as the Passion Plays. Christian pulled Tristan all around the village on his sledge, while we hunted for the perfect wood carving souvenir and tried to find some of those famous painted houses.

Huummmmmm?

Tristan with Bernhard Huber the wood carver. Tristan chose a handcarved nut cracker and Christian and I chose a delicate 5 inch carving of a little boy going for a walk in the woods with his skis.

The Cheese Shop

I took a walk in the cemetary and fell in love with this headstone.

We did find this famous house with the tale of Little Red Riding Hood.

We ended our perfect day with a lovely Valentine's Day Eve dinner.
