"Where in the world are we today?"

In years past this blog was a way for family and friends to join us on our journey as we lived and traveled throughout Europe. Beginning September 2017 it will include our journey into Waldorf homeschooling/worldschooling. I hope to offer inspiration and connection to those that love to travel and home school their children...

Tooling Around Marienplatz!

Last week, Tristan and I went to Marienplatz and we climbed a million stairs to the top of St. Peter's Church. And if you think I'm kidding...I'm not! I figured it would be an enclosed winding staircase....oh, so not the case! It was mostly OPEN stairs and most of the time you could see straight through to the bottom. It didn't LOOK that high from the ground...but when we finally made it to the top, I was afraid to step out onto the tiny two foot wide walkway. I didn't take my camera with me that day, but it's just as well, as I would've been terrified that I would drop it down the stairs! I had a death grip on poor Tristan's wrist as it was!
On the way down, just as we were passing the gigantic bells, and I said to Tristan, "Look honey, the bells"...they began to toll and the whole place shook. And I actually wimpered! Thank goodness it was only three o'clock! It was however, a crystal clear and blue sky day and you could see forever into the mountains.
So today, we went to the top of the Glockenspiel, which had a lovely elevator thank you very much! Here is a picture of Tristan at the top with St. Peter's Church in the background.
Here is a better shot of just the church. Notice the walkway is much higher than the Glockenspiel. Notice also that there is no blue sky or visability!

This is the view looking towards the toy museum.

Looking up!

Here is Tristan at the bottom inside the courtyard showing how high up he just was.

At least once a week Tristan and I can be found at Caffe San Pietro. Tristan is a well known and loved patron! As you can see, we always get a warm welcome from Kris and Tatjana!

What else can pull you through the dead of winter like flowers?

After careful consideration, Tristan chose for me a beautiful bouquet of light pink tulips. Thank you Tristan!

Neuschwanstein Castle!

After a two week hiatus, a much needed break after our Trans-Atlantic travels, we were ready to hit the road again. The Neuschwanstein Castle is only an hour and a half drive from us, so we took to the road on Saturday to check out King Ludwig's house.
The weather by the castle is very volitile, and one minute there is blue sky, and the next, this misty fog and you can't see 10 feet in front of you.

Since I didn't have the luxery of taking this photo from a helecoptor, I cheated and took a photo of a poster...which is the only way you can see the entire palace.
Walt Disney replicated this castle in his world famous "Disney Land Castle".

On our way up to the top of the mountain, we took a horse and carriage ride. The driver handed over the reins to Tristan, who took his job very seriously.

And just like when he was in the cockpit of the plane, he gave us that "look" of... "See, I told you I could drive a horse and carriage!".

Between the mist, the fog, and the sun coming from behind the castle, the photos were challenging to take.

We weren't allowed to take photos inside, only out the windows....so I tried to be creative.

Okay, I did manage to sneak a few photos of Tristan on the inside.

In the gift shop, there was this giant wall sized poster of the castle. All that was missing was a pointer in Tristan's hand so he could say, "And we are here".

I usually manage to take our photo together by placing the camera on something and using the timer. However, there was nothing I could use here, so relying on the kindness of strangers to take a family photo...beggers can't be choosers, and it shows on Tristan's face!

Back In Germany Reflecting On Our Christmas Holiday

We arrived safe and sound in Germany yesterday afternoon...and even though London Heathrow had some snow, we were able to land and take off without any delays!!
Tristan slept for four hours on the first flight, none on the second, and one hour for the car ride home. After being up for 30 hours, we all headed to bed at 7:30pm and slept for 15 hours!! Yes, this is true...I have not misprinted, I did not make a mistake, you are not seeing double, 15 long HOURS of sleep! We have not seen 15 hours of sleep in several years, possibly even decades. We woke up at 10:30am this morning! It was wonderful! We are refreshed!

We did some really fun stuff on our two week Christmas holiday. Right after Christmas we made some gingerbread houses at Joey's house!

Good job Tristan! What a lovely house you made!

We went rock climbing... but at the last minute Tristan changed his mind and decided he didn't want to wear all the climbing gear, so he bounced around on the mats with Emma instead.

This is the closest he did get to rock climbing.... two inches off the ground for a total of five seconds!

We went to a New Year's party where Tristan and Ava got to share some hugs!

A sledding expedition in bitter cold weather was led by Tristan, Emma, Nicholas, and Aidan.

The wind was whipping and we were all frozen by the time we left!

My little snow bunny!

We had a really lovely time at home. Thank you to all of our friends and family for all of their hospitality.
We spent our first day back in Germany sledding and taking a walk in the woods to our favorite Bavarian restaurant for chicken soup and apple strudel!
Auf Wiedersehen!
