"Where in the world are we today?"

In years past this blog was a way for family and friends to join us on our journey as we lived and traveled throughout Europe. Beginning September 2017 it will include our journey into Waldorf homeschooling/worldschooling. I hope to offer inspiration and connection to those that love to travel and home school their children...

In The Kitchen Making Fairy & Gnome Doors!

We've spent the entire week making fairy and gnome doors. I found the recipe off of a Waldorf site, and we have had such fun!

Here is Tristan's door that he designed and decorated all by himself!

I think I actually had more fun than Tristan.

I made not one, but two whimsical doors. They are for indoor use only. But I'm sure they will attract a lovely bunch of fairies and gnomes.

Amsterdam!

So this past weekend we went to Amsterdam... famous for tulips, Delph Pottery, cheese, and of course....the "Red Light District".

With its quaint canals, unique roof tops and wonky buildings, it really is an interesting city in which to walk around.

These waffles seemed to be their only claim to fame here. And they are not even really light and fluffy waffles, but more like a donut in the shape of a waffle. The Dutch didn't seem that creative in the bakery department.

Bikes, bikes, and more bikes...I've never seen so many bikes in all my life. There were bikes chained up that looked to be over 100 years old if they were a day. Bike theft is a big problem in Holland. After they are stolen, they often get thrown into the canals. That's how people get their kicks around here. There is actually a special machine for pulling the bikes out of the canals.

I visited Amsterdam with my grandmother back in May of 1993, so I had a firm understanding of the city. Christian however, had never been before and so when we got to the "Red Light District", the only thing he could utter was, "I'm shocked! And nothing ever shocks me!". Since this is a family blog, I won't go into full details, but you can see from the picture above they grow healthy "house plants". And yes, Tristan was sound asleep in the stroller before we entered the area.

The houses, which at one time were all just warehouses, are tall side by side structures that are all so crooked it's crazy. The stairs inside are all ship ladder style...trust me I know...we stayed on the third floor of a penthouse apartment!

We took a boat ride on the canals.

It is strongly advised not to take photos of the "girls", as they can get pretty angry!

The roof lines are all so different and unusual, but after taking several photos of them, they started to all look the same.

Here is Tristan in front of Anne Frank's House.

Prague Czech Republic

For Easter we spent 4 days in the lovely city of Prague!

The Old Town square was decorated and lively with the Easter market.

Tristan on the Charles Bridge

On Easter morning we came across The Church of St. Martin In The Wall, the oldest church in Prague, built in 1178. Inside was a craft table for children to make precious Easter memories. Tristan sat down and made himself right at home.

The Czech Republic is famous for it Bohemian crystal, Russian stacking dolls, perfume bottles, and wooden puppets.

I took this photo of Charles Bridge off of a postcard, because the bridge is always so packed with people you can't see all the statues.

I took this photo from a postcard as well because it looked so pretty in the snow.

Stealing a kiss!

Tristan and I climbed up the astrological clock tower. This was the view looking down on the outdoor restaurant where we always ate.

The famous astrological clock

Another view from the top of the clock tower.

Every hour on the hour the bugler plays his bugle out the top of the clock tower and the crowd down below goes wild with cheers.

A delicious lunch on a roof top terrace.

When we got back to the house, Tristan found that the Easter Bunny had paid him a visit.

Happy Easter!
